Whitefish High School speech and debate captured first place in Class A with 150 points last weekend at a tournament in Ronan, followed by Columbia Falls High School in second place with 102 points.

Bigfork High School speech and debate placed seventh overall with 32 points.

Whitefish head coach Sara Mueller said the team felt good all day and that confidence showed in competition.

"It was a very busy week in practice finishing new debate cases, getting new students going, and refining pieces," Mueller said. "It’s always great to feel the payoff of that work. The veteran leadership this week is something that needs a special mention."

"We’ll keep putting in the time because we know we’ll continue to be pushed throughout the season,” Mueller added.

Junior varsity teams from Flathead and Glacier high schools also competed, taking first and second, respectively, in Class AA, scoring 58 and 54 points.
