Mobile food bank coming to Post Falls

POST FALLS — The Post Falls Ambassadors are hoping to tide over families in need between the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays with a mobile food bank.
Scot Haug said the nonprofit likes to bring in events like this through 2nd Harvest to stave off food insecurity issues to help the community in Post Falls in a more anonymous way.
“We know in this economy there’s a lot of people struggling though some people don’t realize it,” Haug said.
Those going through the drive-through market will receive mostly nonperishable with some dairy and baking elements.
The no-questions-asked mobile market takes place from 11 to 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 5. The drive-through event has enough materials for about 250 families.
“There will be tables set up so as people drive through and we can just hand them a box,” Haug said.
The ambassadors reached out to Greene Idaho Foundation to help cover the cost of the event and were able to secure the parking lot at Yoke’s at 1501 E. Seltice Way, Post Falls.
Haug said the community group began in 2015 just to bring about positive things to Post Falls and tries to slot in events like the food bank from time to time due to rising costs and financial pressures.
2nd Harvest will provide a semi-truck's worth of food, but there is one resource the group is still searching for ahead of the event: volunteers.
Participants are asked to access the parking lot from the east side of Schneidmiller Way to pick up a box of food.

All aboard! Brunner Road railway crossing project funded
Lakes Highway District recently announced a $14.5 million award from USDOT Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) to eliminate a railway crossing on Brunner Road. The BNSF Railroad crossing project will construct a roundabout, the second alternative outlined in the project pitch to FRA. Brunner Road is a rural east/west major collector road.
Plew picked to fill Post Falls council seat
Mayor Ron Jacobson and city councilors interviewed Aaron Plew, Patrick O'Halloran, Annette Nolting, and Julie Hensley in a conference room at city hall, eventually unanimously confirming Aaron Plew to fill council seat two Thursday after the name was put forth by Jacobson. A full room of residents were present to observe the interviews and additional chairs had to be added as additional constituents arrived.
