The City of Troy has a new mayor.

Councilor Tyler Roland Boswell Jr. was sworn in Monday, Nov. 18, by City Clerk/Treasurer Paula Rice. The vote by his fellow councilors was unanimous.

He replaces former mayor Chuck Ekstedt, who abruptly resigned following the Oct. 21 meeting.

Boswell began serving on the city council in June 2018 when he was appointed following the resignation of Joe Arts due to health issues.

Boswell was re-elected to another term in 2023.

The position will be for the next 14 months through the end of 2025. An election will be held in November 2025 to determine the new mayor.

He is a military veteran, serving his country as a member of the U.S. Army.

Boswell’s ascension to mayor leaves the council seeking a fifth member. For those interested in volunteering for the open seat, they are asked to submit a letter to City Hall by Dec. 12.

In other city business, three members of its government study commission were also sworn in at the Nov. 18 meeting. They include Vicki Stephens, Ben Kibbey and Ilona Eubank. Ex-officio member is Jamie Shupe.
