An Oregon man is facing charges after allegedly spitting and biting on a Lincoln County Detention Center officer.

Danford Winston Hendrix, 31, pleaded not guilty Monday in district court to one felony charge of assault on a peace officer and a misdemeanor count of assault with bodily fluid.

Court officials said Hendrix was initially arrested and taken to the jail following a public nuisance complaint. That charge has been dropped.

According to the probable cause statement by county deputy Brandon Huff, he was called to the detention center at about 8:50 p.m. Sept. 8, to investigate the alleged assault of a jail guard.

Huff watched video that reportedly showed Hendrix biting the hand of a female officer. Huff noted that the bite broke through a glove and penetrated her skin that resulted in a bleeding wound which required medical treatment.

Huff reported the bite followed Hendrix allegedly spitting on the detention officer.

Hendrix’s next hearing is set for Oct. 21.

A conviction on the felony charge may result in a minimum of two years or a maximum of 10 years in the Montana State Prison.
