EPHRATA – The Ephrata School District is looking for community members who are interested in filling the school board's district three open board seat, according to a statement from the district. The School Board Chair, Anita Waller announced her resignation at the Sept. 23 board meeting. She will leave at the end of 2024.
“Most of you are aware that I took a full-time job a year ago, very busy, and I don't feel that I can do this job the way it should be done, not (at) least according to my standards.” Waller said during the meeting. “So, I'm announcing that I will step down at the end of the year. I will fulfill my duties as the chair through the calendar year.”
The school board will appoint someone to serve the remainder of Waller’s term which expires Dec. 2025. Applicants must be United States citizens, be qualified voter residents and live within the boundaries of District 3.
To apply, candidates must provide a biographical sketch or resume and a statement describing why they want to serve on the board. The statement or biographical sketch should not exceed one page typed, according to the Ephrata School District statement.
Applications are due Oct. 31 at 3 p.m. and the interview will be held Nov. 18-20.
Administration of the successful candidates Oath of Office will happen at the beginning of the Jan. 27 school board meeting.

Your time is valuable and we appreciate you being here.” That message – that showing up matters – was echoed by city and school leaders across the Columbia Basin, many of whom say public participation directly shapes decision-making, transparency and long‑term planning.
