A Libby man who avoided jail time after a drug conviction earlier this year is back in custody following a recent incident.

Trevar Alee Sheasby, 32, is in the Lincoln County Detention Center after being accused of theft and criminal mischief stemming from an alleged Sept. 25 incident on West First Street in Libby.

According to the supplemental narrative by Libby Police Chief Cody Ercanbrack, county dispatch got a call from a woman who said Sheasby smashed her car window and stole her car keys.

While Ercanbrack made his way to the scene, he spoke with Sheasby’s probation officer, Steve Watson. Watson told the officer he intended on having Sheasby picked up on a probationary hold.

Ercanbrack reported finding the driver side window shattered with glass on the ground and inside the car. He also noted a brick was found near the car.

Ercanbrack then went to Sheasby’s residence at 1226 Second St. Ext. He said Sheasby denied being at the woman’s residence, breaking her car window and stealing the keys.

The officer then took the defendant to the county jail where he remained as of Oct. 2.

Ercanbrack reported returning to the alleged victim’s residence for clarification of what happened.

She said she awoke when she heard Sheasby yelling in her driveway and she saw him pick up a brick and throw it through her window. She also said she him reach in and grab her keys before he left.

Sheasby was in trouble with authorities last year after his alleged involvement in a drug deal in December 2023.

He was first accused of criminal distribution of dangerous drugs, or in the alternative, criminal possession of dangerous drugs and one misdemeanor count of criminal possession of drug paraphernalia.

Sheasby pleaded guilty on March 18, 2024, to possession of methamphetamine. The other charges were dropped as part of a plea deal between his attorney S. Charles Sprinkle and county Attorney Marcia Boris. 

April 29, District Judge Matt Cuffe sentenced Sheasby to a 3-year deferred term. He received credit for serving 21 days in the county jail and must pay $230 in fines and fees. Cuffe did not impose the $800 payment for his public defender following discussion about Sheasby’s lack of income and that he owes more than $10,000 in child support.

Sheasby explained he ran a credit repair business before his arrest on Dec. 18, 2023. At sentencing, Sheasby said he believed he could find work and pay costs associated with his case.
