The Troy Lady Trojans volleyball team started strong and had a 2-1 lead over visiting Superior Saturday at the Activity Center before the Lady Bobcats rallied to win.
Troy rolled to a 25-13 win in the opening set with good serving while erasing a 9-8 deficit. Four straight aces by junior Mellissa Laffoon gave Troy a 15-9 lead.
Senior Tana Grant then followed with three aces to make it 20-10.
In the second set, Superior claimed a 25-17 win, but Troy took the third set, 25-16. Laffoon had a pair of smashes late in the set to help carry the Lady Trojans.
In the fourth set, Troy seemed ready to win after another Laffoon kill made it 14-10. But the Lady Bobcats eventually tied it at 18-18.
Troy head coach Jordan Graves called timeout, but Superior took seven of the next eight points for a 25-19 win. Junior Perri Jasper had three straight aces and senior Braelynn Mangold’s kill completed the comeback.
The Lady Trojans started the fifth and deciding match with leads of 2-0 and 3-1, but Superior used four straight aces by Makenzie Reum vaulted it to a 10-6 lead and eventually a 15-9 win.
Troy hosted Eureka Tuesday and Noxon on Thursday.
