New apartments, restaurant planned for downtown Post Falls

POST FALLS — Downtown could soon feature a new mixed-use building that features apartments and a restaurant.

The 50,000-square-foot site occupies most of the north block, adjacent to Republic Kitchen + Taphouse.

Mother-daughter team Laura and Kelsey Horn plan to open Miss Dazee's, a 3,000-square-foot brunch restaurant, at the corner of North Spokane Street and Fourth Avenue. The development will also incorporate the parcel to the east, expanding the commercial space at 102 E. 4th Ave.

"That location at the corner is a perfect location for a mixed-use building and it's a key property in revitalization of the downtown," Community Development Director Bob Seale said.

The Horns purchased the property a few years ago, and the development process included significant soil remediation efforts.

"A lot of people have been watching that site for years. To tie those two parcels together and build something would be a great addition to that location," Seale said.

The project, named the Nonna building, will feature 33 apartment units on the upper three floors, providing what Seale calls "much needed urban housing" for downtown Post Falls. Parking plans include 18 on-street spaces and 25 covered off-street spaces for tenants.

HDG Architecture, which is heading up the project, aims to incorporate design elements reminiscent of old Post Falls downtown, demolished in the 1970s. The firm has also been involved in two other projects on Spokane Street, including Konala and the soon-to-open Rooted coffee shop at Spokane and Railroad avenues.

According to an HDG news release, the project hopes to "serve as a catalyst for the burgeoning neighborhood."

Seale added that the development aligns with the city center master plan. The project is estimated to be completed sometime in 2026.
