Gridiron Roundup: Big wins for several local squads

MOSES LAKE – Blowout wins were a common theme on Friday night, as ACH, Moses Lake, MLCA/CCS and Royal all claimed wins by more than four scores. Check out this week’s gridiron roundup to see how local teams fared, including two games that featured teams from Grant and Adams counties. 

Almira/Coulee-Hartline (5-1, 3-0 NEB) 

46-14 win vs. Columbia (Stevens) 

ACH scored 30 points in the first quarter en route to a convincing win over Columbia (Hunters) at home Friday night, eventually holding on for a 46-14 win. 

The Warriors ran for 277 yards on 20 carries on Friday, with sophomore Brody Pitts leading the way with 75 yards on five carries. Junior Harvest Parrish, junior Brady Roberts, senior Carter Pitts and senior Kayden Casimir all scored on rushing touchdowns. Junior Adyn Peha and senior William Allsbrook caught passing touchdowns from junior Caden Correia. 

ACH travels to Wellpinit on Friday at 3 p.m. 

Ephrata (3-3, 3-2 CWAC)  

35-13 loss to Othello

Lind-Ritzville/Sprague (3-3, 2-2 NE2B) 

29-21 loss vs. Warden 

Despite an early 14-0 lead, the Broncos couldn’t hold on for a home win on Friday night, falling to Warden 29-21 in overtime of a non-league matchup. 

Senior Brody Boness scored all three of LRS’s touchdowns, scoring on a one-yard, a 57-yard and a three-yard run in the loss. The senior totaled 201 yards on 31 carries Friday night. Leading the Broncos in receiving was senior Zach Klein, who had one catch for 39 yards. Klein also intercepted a pass in the second quarter. 

LRS allowed 21 unanswered Cougar points in the second and third quarters before tying the game in the fourth.  

The Broncos host Northwest Christian (Colbert) on Friday at 7 p.m. 

Moses Lake (5-1, 3-0 CBBN) 

69-20 win vs. Post Falls 

It was a scoring barrage Friday night for the Mavericks against visiting Post Falls (Idaho) as Moses Lake scored 28 points in the first quarter followed by 21 in the second quarter before pulling off its eventual 69-20 win Friday night. 

Junior Brady Jay completed 33-of-47 passes for 434 yards and six touchdowns, three of which went to junior Grant Smith who scored three times on eight catches for 134 yards. Senior Tommy Ransom, junior Carter Anderson and sophomore Taggart Rathbun also caught touchdowns in the win. 

Sophomore Elijah Burns caught 14 passes for 151 yards while running for 75 yards and a touchdown on nine carries. 

Moses Lake forced five turnovers in the win; four fumble recoveries and one interception. 

The Mavericks host Eastmont on Friday at 7 p.m. 

MLCA/CCS (2-3, 1-1 CWB) 

50-6 win at Pateros 

The Lions got back in the win column on Friday with a big win over Pateros, with the game being called early in the second half after an injury to Pateros player. 

MLCA/CCS junior Johnny Ferguson completed five-of-seven passes for 141 yards and a touchdown in the win, with Ferguson adding 54 yards and two touchdowns on the ground. Junior Derick Smith and senior Jacob Journey also reached the end zone on carries in the win. Sophomore Micah Fountain led the Lions in receiving with three catches for 126 yards and a touchdown. Junior Jayson Evans also returned a punt for a touchdown in the win. 

MLCA/CCS hosts Waterville-Mansfield on Saturday at 6 p.m. 

Othello (6-0, 5-0 CWAC)  

35-13 win at Ephrata

Quincy (1-5, 0-5 CWAC)  

40-14 loss vs. Ellensburg – statistics not available 

Still searching for their first Central Washington Athletic Conference win this season, the Jackrabbits travel to Grandview on Friday at 7 p.m. 

Royal (6-0, 5-0 SCAC) 

52-8 win vs. Prosser 

The Knights led 38-0 over Prosser at halftime Friday night, eventually going on to defeat the Mustangs 52-8 in their lone non-league matchup of the regular season. 

Royal’s balanced offensive attack put up 478 yards Friday, 249 of which came through the air on top of 229 in the run game. 

Senior Lance Allred completed 11-of-18 passes for 199 yards and two touchdowns, running for another 128 yards and a touchdown. Senior Santana Luna rushed for 93 yards and four touchdowns on nine carries in the win, and senior Jackson Larsen caught five passes for 100 yards. On the receiving end of touchdowns were junior Shea Stevenson and senior Nathan Niebla. 

Royal travels to Wahluke on Friday at 7 p.m. 

Soap Lake (4-1, 2-0 CWB) 

34-28 win at Oroville 

The Eagles improved to 2-0 in Central Washington B games with Friday’s road win over Oroville, defeating the Hornets 34-28. 

Senior Jairo Lopez completed 14-of-25 passes for 239 yards and four touchdowns in the win, with junior Logan Northup (seven catches, 125 yards) and senior Kyle Ayers (five catches, 102 yards) both catching two touchdowns. Senior Samuel Schopf led the Eagles on the ground with 125 yards and a touchdown on 19 carries. 

Soap Lake hosts Entiat on Friday at 7 p.m. 

Wahluke (2-4, 2-3 SCAC) 

35-20 loss vs. College Place – statistics not available 

The Warriors suffered their fourth straight loss Friday night, falling 35-20 to visiting College Place. Wahluke hosts Royal on Friday at 7 p.m. 

Warden (5-1, 1-1 EWAC) 

29-21 win at Lind-Ritzville/Sprague 

The Cougars surpassed last season’s win total with Friday night’s overtime win over Lind-Ritzville/Sprague, mounting a 14-point comeback to improve to 5-1 this fall. 

Sophomore Kameron Jensen completed 28-of-40 passes for 273 yards, three touchdowns and an interception in the win; two touchdowns were scored by senior Michael Gonzalez, who finished the game with nine catches for 94 yards and the two scores. The senior also caught a two-point conversion in overtime. 

Warden trailed 14-0 early in the second quarter but cut the deficit to seven just before halftime, then took the lead in the third quarter after touchdowns by Jensen and Gonzalez. After senior Elijah Ruiz scored a 10-yard touchdown on Warden’s overtime possession, the Cougars held LRS on fourth down in overtime to seal the win. 

Warden travels to Tri-Cities Prep on Saturday at 6 p.m.
