KELLOGG –– Shoshone County Clerk Peggy White would like to remind people to leave campaign signs alone.  

Recently, the Shoshone County Republican Central Committee posted on their Facebook page that several signs along Hill Street in Kellogg were missing. The signs were posted legally on city property, where the rules are they must not impact any traffic (motorized or foot) and must be removed immediately after the election.  

According to the post, the group reached out to the city of Kellogg, who maintained they had nothing to do with the removal of the signs. The post also included a plea for people to appeal to their better nature. 

“Everyone, please find it in yourselves to respect ALL candidate signs. Independent, Democrat, Republican, Libertarian, Write-In.... whatever it may be, let's remember we are neighbors and we all love our County. Let's always take the high road and respect the signage and the money and time candidates and their volunteers put in.” 

Kellogg Police Chief did investigate the incident in Kellogg and found that the signs had been removed by some local juveniles who used them for non-political reasons.  

“The signs were removed and used as frisbees by some juveniles,” Twidt said. “Democrat and Republican signs took flight across Hill St into Teeters Field and the city park.”  

With just under three weeks remaining until Election Day, White would like to remind people to remain civil and leave all signage alone.  

“It is that time of the year for people to understand election signs are personal property,” White said.  “Please do not pick up or steal signs from our candidates. The process is very important to our democracy.”  

Tampering with a political sign anywhere other than a person's own private property is a misdemeanor offense.

If you see anyone steal, vandalize, or remove a campaign sign before Election Day, contact the local law enforcement agency for that area.
