It was not a good week for Noxon’s Lady Devils volleyball team.

They opened their week with a 3-0 loss at home to Troy, then jumped out of the pan and into the fire when they journeyed to Seeley-Swan to take on the Blackhawks Saturday evening and were swept 3-0.

The match against Troy was, despite the sweep, a closer than it seemed, hard-fought contest.

The score bounced back and forth in the opening set in Troy, with multiple ties and lead changes on the way to a 25-22 Troy win.  That gave the Lady Trojans a 1-0 match advantage.

Set two was similar to set one in that the score bounced back and forth before Troy was able to pull away late and hang on for a 25-18 win, giving them a 2-0 match lead.

The third set was also close most of the way, before Troy put some space between themselves and the Lady Devils, finally winning the set 25-19 and clinching the 3-0 sweep.

Saturday against the always tough Seeley squad, with is 6-4 and in fifth place in the Western 13C conference race, the opening set was razor close the entire way, with neither team able to put any scoring distance between them.

Seeley managed to pull out a 25-23 set one win and take a 1-0 match lead.

In the second set, Seeley established an early 4-1 lead and never trailed en route to a 25-13 win and a 2-0 match advantage.

Noxon was not ready to quit entering set three, and held a narrow early lead until Seeley went ahead at mid-set.  From that point, the set was tied at 16, 17, 19 and 20 before Noxon assumed a one-point lead.

Seeley tied the score at 21, then took a 22-21 lead.  They then scored the next three points to secure a 25-21 set victory and complete the 3-0 sweep.

Next up for Noxon is a match this Thursday (Oct 24) at Lincoln.  The District 13 tournament is set for this Oct 31 to Nov 2 at an as-yet undisclosed site.
