EPHRATA – Grant Public Utility District released a statement regarding the Washington Families Clean Energy Credit Program. The program facilitates one-time $200 electric bill credits for 8,579 qualifying Grant County customers. 

“Oh my goodness, thank you so much,” said one Moses Lake customer, according to the Grant PUD release. “I wasn’t going to be able to afford back-to-school clothes for my kids, and now I can.” 

According to a release from the Grant PUD, there was a total of $1,715,800 in credits applied to Grant County resident's accounts.  

“$200 was a huge relief and was the help we needed to afford groceries this week,” said one Mattawa resident in the Grant PUD release. 

Grant PUD said they were thrilled to participate in the program which provided critical financial support to their qualified residents. The program was backed by the Washington State Department of Commerce and funded through the Washington Climate Commitment Act.  

“This credit came just in time,” said one Royal City customer in the Grant PUD release. “My bills were stacking up and I was about to get my power shut off. The credit gave me time to catch my breath.”  

The effort was part of a larger statewide initiative that aimed at helping 675,000 households with an allocated budget of $150 million. According to Grant PUD the program’s goal was to reduce climate pollution, create jobs and improve public health. 

The credit showed the collaboration of state and local utilities to provide direct services to those in need, according to Grant PUD.
