PREP VOLLEYBALL: Lakeland to play for 5A regional title

RATHDRUM — The top-seeded Lakeland Hawks made quick work of the fourth-seeded Sandpoint Bulldogs in a 25-7, 25-5, 25-17 victory in the loser-out first round of the 5A Region 1 volleyball tournament Tuesday night at Hawk Court.
Senior Landree Simon had nine kills and 11 digs for Lakeland (19-10), which will host second-seeded Lewiston (18-5) on Thursday to begin the best-of-3 series for the district championship and the district’s lone berth to state.
The first two matches will be Thursday at Lakeland, starting at 5 p.m. If a third match is needed, it would be Saturday at Lakeland.
Alyssa Ryckman had six kills and four aces for the Hawks, No. 1 in 5A in the latest MaxPreps rankings. Ziya Munyer added five blocks, Olivia Zazuetta 23 assists, Addy Jo Hocking 10 digs.
Lewiston defeated third-seeded Moscow (8-13) 25-23, 21-25, 19-25, 25-14, 15-11 in the other loser-out first-round match on Tuesday at Lewiston High.

COEUR d’ALENE — Kylee Phillips had 11 kills and 22 digs for the second-seeded Miners in a 25-20, 25-21, 25-23 win over the third-seeded Knights in the 2A District 1 semifinals at Christianson Gymnasium on the campus of North Idaho College.
Wallace (14-8) will face top-seeded Genesis Prep (12-9) in the championship match on Thursday at 7 at NIC. If Genesis Prep wins, the Jaguars advance to state. If Wallace wins, a second title match would be Saturday at The Courts at Real Life in Post Falls.
Aubrey Birdsell had 22 assists, Anna Rehnborg 20 digs and three aces and Bethany Phillips five kills and one block for Wallace.

COEUR d’ALENE — The second-seeded Warriors defeated the third-seeded Tigers 25-23, 23-25, 25-21, 13-25, 15-9 in a semifinal match in the 1A District 1 tournament at Christianson Gymnasium on the campus of North Idaho College.
Kootenai (4-11) will face top-seeded Coeur du Christ (7-6) on Thursday at 5:30 p.m., with the winner advancing to a state play-in match against the District 2 runner-up on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Coeur d’Alene High.
Mullan finished 2-9.
