St. Vincent de Paul of North Idaho said Tuesday it has a new executive director.

Dr. Scott Ferguson has been hired to lead the nonprofit that helps thousands with shelter, clothing, food and other basic necessities.

He replaces Larry Riley, who departed from St. Vincent's earlier this year after leading the organization for five years.

Mike McDowell, board president of St. Vincent de Paul of North Idaho, said Ferguson comes from the Innovia Foundation, where he is currently the associate director of grants. 

"Ferguson brings over 20 years of leadership experience in higher education and the nonprofit sector with a demonstrated commitment to fostering community engagement and serving under resourced communities," a press release said.  

Ferguson’s leadership includes the 2020 Carnegie Classification for Community Engagement Recognition for his efforts in building vibrant and resilient communities across the Pacific Northwest. 

He earned his bachelor of arts from Warner Pacific College, his master’s degree in education from Portland State and his doctorate of education from Concordia University.

Ferguson is currently a board member of the Spokane Regional Continuum of Care and is a member of both the Coeur d’Alene and Post Falls chambers.

St. Vincent de Paul North Idaho has over 5,000 cases a year. It offers dozens of programs, including nutrition, money management, education and employment.
