PREP SWIMMING: Foust, Demmons, Leavitt shine at Moscow Invite
MAX OSWALD | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 1 year, 1 month AGO
I grew up in the small town of Orwigsburg, Pa., where I resided all of my life before moving to Sandpoint. I attended Blue Mountain High School, where I participated in cross country and track and field, a sport that I ended up falling in love with. I went on to attend and run for DeSales University (with other brief stints at Susquehanna University and Elizabethtown College) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sport communication with a minor in sport management. I remember just how great it made me feel when I was mentioned in my hometown newspaper. I want to be able to give that feeling to every athlete in Bonner County, no matter how big or small their accomplishments are. As an athlete myself, I know how many hours of work are put in on a daily basis, and that hard work deserves to be recognized. It is my goal to cover as much of the Bulldogs, Spartans and Wampus Cats as I can. I want to work with every athlete, parent, coach, administrator and the community to ensure the best stories are published. | October 26, 2024 6:30 PM

MOSCOW — Freshman Lou Foust, freshman Bodi Demmons, and junior Kai Leavitt all set new personal bests as the Sandpoint High swim team competed in one last invitational before districts at the University of Idaho Swim Center on Saturday.
In addition to their personal best times, Sandpoint High head coach Greg Jackson said all three demonstrated the success of working both physically and mentally.
Foust swam to second in the 500 freestyle (5:21.21) and fourth in the 100 backstroke (1:01.89). Demmons, who led off the winning 200 medley relay, finished sixth in the 200 individual medley (2:26.43). Leavitt, who also competed in the winning 200 medley relay, placed fourth in the 200 freestyle (2:03.83) and fifth in the 100 butterfly (1:02.34).
Junior Kale Wright was once again impressive, anchoring the winning 200 medley relay and swimming to third in the 50 freestyle (23.36) and second in the 100 freestyle (51.18)
On the girls side, senior Ava de Leeuw won the 500 freestyle (5:31.48) and placed second in the 200 freestyle (2:06.74) while sophomore Reina Montecchi took home gold in the 100 freestyle (57.46) and placed second in the 50 freestyle (26.45). Ryleigh Bamer added a second place finish in the 100 butterfly (1:05.13) for the Lady Bulldogs.
Coach Jackson said he was also proud of Rachel Aylward for her continued improvement through pure determination and of Lillian Jackson, who dropped 20 seconds off her 100 backstroke time (19th in 1:44.61).
Jackson said it will be fun to watch the championship season play out and he believes both Sandpoint's boys and girls are going to be swimming some really fast times in the near future.
Sandpoint returns to the University of Idaho on Nov. 2 for the 5A Inland Empire League district championship.
