Norman Russell Carpenter, 79

Norman Russell Carpenter, 79, of Pinehurst, Idaho, beloved father, grandfather, brother, friend and devoted Pittsburgh Steelers fan, passed away Oct. 24, 2024, at the Schneidmiller Hospice House in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, after a lengthy illness. Norman was born Aug. 1, 1945, in Wallace, Idaho, a son of the late Albert Carpenter and Mildred (Johnson) Carpenter.
Norman graduated from Kootenai High School, Class of 1963, but had lived in the Silver Valley for most of his life. Norman worked at the Bunker Hill and Sunshine mines as a top-side stripper for a combined 30 years. Norman also worked part time for the City of Smelterville until his retirement.
Norman was active in his community and was a member of the Pinehurst Jaycees and the Smelterville Lions Club. He enjoyed working and tinkering around on old cars and loved spending time at his river property.
In addition to his parents, Norman is preceded in death by a brother, Pete Carpenter.
Survivors include his two sons, Keith (Megan) Carpenter of Spokane, Wash., and Chris (Lori) Carpenter of Bonners Ferry, Wash.; his daughter, Kim (Joey) James of Rathdrum, Idaho; his stepson, Rocky (Holly) Vaughn of Bakersfield, Calif.; his stepdaughter, Sherrie Sims of Cataldo, Idaho; his brother, Jim (Melba) Carpenter of Radersburg, Mont.; as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation for family and friends will be held Thursday, Oct. 31, 2024, from noon to 5 p.m. at Shoshone Funeral Services, 106 S. Main St., Kellogg, Idaho. Graveside services will be conducted Friday, Nov. 1, 2024, at 1 p.m. at Rose Lake Cemetery, Cataldo, Idaho.
