Mattawa woman dead after two-vehicle collision

MATTAWA — A 33-year-old Mattawa woman died Friday and three other people were injured from a two-vehicle collision near Mattawa on Friday, according to the Grant County Sheriff’s Office.
Silvia Cruz was driving a 2017 Hyundai Sonata east from the intersection of Road 24-Southwest when she was struck by a 2003 Honda driven by 25-year-old Jose Antonio Alejo Ferrer who was traveling south on Road U-Southwest.
Cruz was pronounced dead at the scene. Her body is in the care of Coroner Craig Morrison.
Cruz’s three juvenile passengers were injured and transported to Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland.
Investigators suspect Ferrer of DUI and speeding.
The Mattawa Police Department, Grant County Fire District 8, Grant County Public Works Department, Grant County Coroner’s Office and GCSO cooperated in response to the incident.
