An evening celebrating the beauty and power of live choral music, the Glacier Chorale presents With Joy Together.

The concert takes place Saturday, Nov. 2 at 7:30 p.m. at the Wachholz College Center on the campus of Flathead Valley Community College.

This program, led by Glacier Chorale’s director, Micah Hunter, delves into the theme of desire, weaving together diverse pieces that speak to the joy rooted in our most heartfelt aspirations.

“I am excited to premiere my arrangement of ‘Over the Sea to Skye’ as part of our Celtic folk song set,” Hunter said. “Our biggest challenge has been a piece called ‘Owls’ by Vijay Singh of Central Washington University. Probably our greatest triumph in terms of expressivity and artistry right now is ‘How Lovely is Thy Dwelling Place’ from Brahms' A German Requiem.”

Hunter said the choir has grown the most through its preparation of Eric Whitacre's “A Boy and a Girl,” which the choir has have performed before, but is verging on the best concertgoers have heard from the choir.

“My most central belief about joy is that it is fundamentally rooted in desire,” he said. “This program has been chosen with the theme of desire in mind, and my hope is that in expressing those different framings of desire with many voices as one, we will create an experience of joy together.”

A member of the chorale Joe Kola, who is market president of Stockman Bank, shared his personal connection to the performance and the value of the arts in the community.

“In a hectic world moving at 5G speed, the opportunity to slow down and regularly rehearse beautiful music means a great deal to me, never mind we do it in a world-class concert hall,” Kola said. “It’s a bland world without artistic expression, and those are the things that make communities interesting, that give them character. When our communities flourish, so does our organization, which allows us to give back and reinforce the entire cycle.”

Concert organizers say the evening promises to be inspiring and filled with powerful performances, including Hunter’s arrangement of “Over the Sea to Skye” and challenging works by Brahms, Vijay Singh, and Eric Whitacre.
