COLUMBIA BASIN — The fall sports season kicks off Thursday for local teams, with Royal girls soccer and volleyball teams facing their first competition of the season.

Eastern defeated South Dakota 67-63 on Saturday afternoon to go 2-0 in the Big Sky-Summit League Challenge. The Eagles improve to 5-4 on the season, while USD falls to 8-2.

CHENEY – Eastern fell in straight sets to Sacramento State on Wednesday night, according to a statement from EWU athletics. The Eagles were led by Kalista Lukovich and Alyssa Radke with seven kills apiece, while Elle Bruegman anchored the defense with 14 digs. Eastern also continued to showcase one of its season-long strengths at the net, out-blocking the Hornets 9–3 with seven solo blocks.
