COLLEGE NOTEBOOK: Longanecker records first collegiate assist

MAX OSWALD | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 1 year, 3 months AGO
by MAX OSWALD
I grew up in the small town of Orwigsburg, Pa., where I resided all of my life before moving to Sandpoint. I attended Blue Mountain High School, where I participated in cross country and track and field, a sport that I ended up falling in love with. I went on to attend and run for DeSales University (with other brief stints at Susquehanna University and Elizabethtown College) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sport communication with a minor in sport management. I remember just how great it made me feel when I was mentioned in my hometown newspaper. I want to be able to give that feeling to every athlete in Bonner County, no matter how big or small their accomplishments are. As an athlete myself, I know how many hours of work are put in on a daily basis, and that hard work deserves to be recognized. It is my goal to cover as much of the Bulldogs, Spartans and Wampus Cats as I can. I want to work with every athlete, parent, coach, administrator and the community to ensure the best stories are published. | September 10, 2024 2:30 PM

Jett Longanecker, College of Idaho Soccer

Jett, a 2024 Sandpoint High graduate and the all-time Bulldogs assist leader, recorded his first collegiate assist during the 74th minute of a 3-0 home win over Simpson College (Calif) this past Saturday. The Yotes, which are 2-0-1 so far this season, return to action Sept. 20 when they host Northwest University.

Avery Bayer, Idaho State Golf

Avery, a 2024 graduate of Bonners Ferry High, competed in her first ever collegiate golf outing and was third on the team for the Bengals, carding a 24-over-par across three rounds at the Wolverine Invitational, which was hosted by Utah Valley University at the Talons Cove Golf Club at Saratoga Springs. Overall, Bayer finished tied for 53rd out of 62 golfers and registered four birdies. The Bengals return to action Sept. 16 at the Kelsey Chugg Invitational hosted by Weber State, where her twin sister Braylyn plays and will make her collegiate debut.

Helena White, Napa Valley College Volleyball

A 2024 graduate of Priest River High, Helena, a middle blocker and right-side hitter for the Storm, has played in 22 of Napa Valley's 25 sets this season, producing 19 kills, 14 digs, and three total blocks. In a five-set loss to Lassen Community College, Helena posted a career-high seven kills. Napa Valley, which is 2-4 on the season, will travel to Monterey Peninsula on Wednesday.

Eli Larson, Carroll College Football

A 2021 graduate of Sandpoint High, Eli, a defensive back, recorded three tackles, including one for a loss, and a pass break up in the Saints season-opening 30-22 loss to rival Montana Tech. Carroll (0-1) hosts Rocky Mountain College on Saturday.

Emma Lucas, Big Bend CC Volleyball

Emma, a 2023 Bonners Ferry High graduate, recorded 80 assists, 17 digs, and a block across four games at the Pierce-Highline Invitational this past weekend. She is one of only two players who have played in all 44 sets for the Vikings this year and is eighth in the NWAC, which has 36 member schools, with a team-high 238 assists.
