QUINCY — The contribution Quincy-area farmers make – locally and beyond – was recognized at Farmer Consumer Awareness Day on Saturday. The annual event seeks to help area residents understand the hard work that goes into producing the food that goes into our grocery stores.

Full coverage of the event will appear in this month’s edition of the Basin Business Journal, our sister publication covering business, agriculture and industry in the Columbia Basin.

Smoke detector provides early warning of Moses Lake fire

The fire, in the 2600 block of West Texas Street, occurred about 1 a.m., according to a statement from the Moses Lake Fire Department. “Upon arrival, crews found light smoke coming from the home. Firefighters determined the fire had started and was contained to a plugged-in appliance,” the statement said. “The fire was extinguished before it could spread, limiting damage primarily to smoke within the residence.”
