St. Regis’ volleyball team split a pair of games this past week, picking up their first win of the 2024 season before running into a perennially tough opponent who swept them at home.
The Lady Tigers opened the week on a positive note, sweeping conference foe Noxon 3-0 on the Lady Devils’ home court Tuesday evening.
St. Regis took the opening set 25-20 to assume a 1-0 match lead in a meeting of two evenly matched teams.
The Tigers won set number two by an even tighter score, 25-23, then wrapped up the sweep with a 25-20 third set win and 3-0 match victory.
Shelby Simkins had an outstanding match for St. Regis, recording a team-best nine service aces, as well as a team-high 15 assists.
St. Regis, which had 45 digs as a team, was paced by nine digs each from Shylah Dalka and Khila Teeters. Simpkins also tied Averie Burnham for the team lead in kill shot with five apiece.
St. Regis served up 18 aces in the match against Noxon.
Saturday afternoon in St. Regis, against Philipsburg, was a different story.
The Lady Prospectors won the first set 25-13, took set number two 25-15, and secured the 3-0 match victory with a 25-15, third-set win.
The victory moved Philipsburg to 3-1 overall on the year, while St. Regis fell to 1-2.
This week the Lady Tigers are scheduled to take on Superior tonight (Sept 17) in Superior, then travel to Wallace, Idaho for a match Wednesday (Sept 18).
