PREP GOLF: Tuinstra, Mire lift Sandpoint girls to Bulldog Invitational title

I grew up in the small town of Orwigsburg, Pa., where I resided all of my life before moving to Sandpoint. I attended Blue Mountain High School, where I participated in cross country and track and field, a sport that I ended up falling in love with. I went on to attend and run for DeSales University (with other brief stints at Susquehanna University and Elizabethtown College) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sport communication with a minor in sport management. I remember just how great it made me feel when I was mentioned in my hometown newspaper. I want to be able to give that feeling to every athlete in Bonner County, no matter how big or small their accomplishments are. As an athlete myself, I know how many hours of work are put in on a daily basis, and that hard work deserves to be recognized. It is my goal to cover as much of the Bulldogs, Spartans and Wampus Cats as I can. I want to work with every athlete, parent, coach, administrator and the community to ensure the best stories are published. | September 23, 2024 9:20 PM

SANDPOINT — Seniors Alexa Tuinstra and Taylor Mire finished first and second, respectively, after carding 5-over-par 77s and the Sandpoint High girls’ golf team won the Bulldog Invitational held Monday at The Idaho Club.

Tuinstra and Mire faced off in a playoff where Tuinstra prevailed and took home medalist honors for the fourth time this season. Seniors Demi Driggs and Claire Loutzenhiser shot 86s to give the Lady Bulldogs a total score of 326, 11 strokes ahead of runner-up Coeur d’Alene.

Senior Raegan Samuels shot a 91 and finished fifth while Grace Loutzenhiser carded a 120 playing as an individual.

On the boys’ side, junior Micah Young posted an 11-over-par 83 to lead the Sandpoint boys to a sixth-place finish out of seven scoring teams. Junior Logan McGrann shot an 85, junior Logan Roos a 91, and junior Tyler Weisz a 92 to round out the Bulldogs’ top four.

Sophomore Bode Eacret shot a 98 and finished fifth. Playing as individuals, junior Cooper Zimmerman carded an 86, junior Linkin Haddock an 89, junior Everett Gilman a 93, and Aidan Rork a 102.

Sandpoint High head coach Mike Deprez said he would like to once again thank the Idaho Club for allowing his squad to host the Bulldog Invitational at their world-class facility.
