MOSES LAKE — North Central Washington Libraries will host a virtual conversation with best-selling author Erika L. Sánchez on Oct. 10, according to an announcement from NCW Libraries.

In a virtual program via Zoom, Sánchez will talk about her book “I Am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter,” according to the announcement.

“I Am Not Your Perfect American Daughter” is in the process of being adapted into an Amazon film directed by America Ferrera. The novel was a National Book Award finalist and reached No. 1 on the New York Times bestseller list. Time magazine recognized it as one of the best young adult novels of all time.

The novel tells the story of Julia, whose sister Olga dies in a tragic accident. Julia is left to pick up the pieces of her family and is also expected to fill Olga’s shoes. But Julia has never been the perfect Mexican daughter. As Julia struggles to find her place in the world, she discovers Olga was not as perfect as everyone thought. Who was her sister really? And how can Julia even attempt to live up to an impossible ideal?

The book is available through all NCW Libraries branches in both English and Spanish, according to the announcement. The book may be borrowed on the honor system; no library card is required.

Sánchez is a Mexican American poet, novelist and essayist who lives in Chicago, according to the announcement.

Those interested in joining the conversation may register online at www.ncwlibraries.org on the calendar and a Zoom link will be emailed. For more information, visit www.ncwlibraries.org.

“I Am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter,” the No. 1 New York Times bestseller soon to be a film, will be the topic of a virtual conversation hosted by North Central Washington Libraries Oct. 10.
