PREP GOLF: Sandpoint girls second at Hayden Lake

I grew up in the small town of Orwigsburg, Pa., where I resided all of my life before moving to Sandpoint. I attended Blue Mountain High School, where I participated in cross country and track and field, a sport that I ended up falling in love with. I went on to attend and run for DeSales University (with other brief stints at Susquehanna University and Elizabethtown College) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sport communication with a minor in sport management. I remember just how great it made me feel when I was mentioned in my hometown newspaper. I want to be able to give that feeling to every athlete in Bonner County, no matter how big or small their accomplishments are. As an athlete myself, I know how many hours of work are put in on a daily basis, and that hard work deserves to be recognized. It is my goal to cover as much of the Bulldogs, Spartans and Wampus Cats as I can. I want to work with every athlete, parent, coach, administrator and the community to ensure the best stories are published. | September 30, 2024 5:45 PM
HAYDEN LAKE — Taylor Mire finished second overall, carding a 10-over-par 81 as the Sandpoint High girls' golf team finished second at the Sue Mitchell Invitational held Monday at the Hayden Lake Country Club.
Originally, it appeared as if the Lady Bulldogs had won the invitational when the scores read that Sandpoint finished with 339 strokes compared to Coeur d'Alene's 340.
Senior Raegan Samuels, noticing an error in her score when it was posted by invitational organizers, voluntarily corrected it from 85 to 87, which meant the Lady Bulldogs were actually one stroke short of the Lady Vikings.
"The message of today is how important one stroke is, can be, in team golf," Sandpoint High head coach Mike Deprez said. "Honesty and integrity are integral to the sport of golf and were exemplified by Raegan."
Samuels, who finished third for the Lady Bulldogs and fifth overall, was just behind teammate Demi Driggs, who tied for third with an 83 and finished second for Sandpoint. Rounding out the Lady Bulldogs' top four was Alexa Tuinstra, who carded a 90 and finished eighth overall. Claire Loutzenhiser shot a 100 in the No. 5 spot.
