The Polson City Fire Department was dispatched to a residential fire last Wednesday evening, located at the corner of Second St. E. and Seventh Ave. E.

The building was empty and in disrepair, and according to Polson Fire Chief Clint Cottle, had “been vacant for some time.”

Upon arrival, firefighters found that the structure was in flames and posed an immediate threat to the house next door. The sheer size of the fire caused them to deploy more than 10,000 gallons  to put it out.

The house next door was unharmed, aside from some cracked windows due to heat pressure.

Its resident, Kelsey Lynn Fowler, appreciated the quick action of the local crew in keeping her home safe from the neighboring blaze. "They did a good job of protecting the house," she said.

No injuries to civilians or fire personnel on the scene were reported.

According to Cottle, the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Here’s to all the not-so ordinary people

I have known Polson all my life, the curves of the road that lead to old friends' houses, the smell of the lake as you drive down 93, and the sounds erupting from the football stadium on a Friday night under the lights. These sensations have painted my experience here, and it’s hard not to get sucked into the natural beauty of a small community like the ones scattered across the Mission Valley.

Main Street in Polson was the place to witness the surrender of British Redcoats, a hoard of kids racing through town and a procession of humans and animals decked out in red, white and blue last Friday.
