Glacier National Park plow crews have made it to Crystal Point on the Going-to-the-Sun Road, but the road this weekend will be closed at Avalanche Creek to hikers and bikers due to avalanche danger. 

Crystal Point is just beyond the Loop, as it turns into the high country of the park. 

The Sun Road is closed on the west side to motor vehicles at Lake McDonald Lodge, but people can hike and bike to Avalanche, which is about six miles.

Park spokeswoman Gina Icenoggle noted that the avalanche at Red Rocks, which usually slides over the road every year, was particularly large this year.

Icenoggle confirmed that several other park roads have been plowed, but none of them are open to vehicles.

The Camas Road is plowed, but not open to vehicles. On the east side, the Two Medicine, Many Glacier and Chief Mountain roads are also plowed, but not open to vehicles.  

They are open to hikers and bikers, but in Many Glacier, people can only go as far as the T intersection near the Many Glacier Hotel, as there is construction in the Swiftcurrent Valley, Icenoggle said. 

The Going-to-the-Sun Road is plowed to Rising Sun on the east side and open to vehicles to that point. But there is no hiking and biking beyond that due to avalanche danger.

The park saw heavy snow at times on Thursday, but this weekend should be sunny and warmer with highs in the upper 40s to low 50s. 

A chance of rain returns Monday, but highs should be in the 50s.
