PREP BASEBALL: Sandpoint rallies to first win over Post Falls since 2021

by MAX OSWALD
I grew up in the small town of Orwigsburg, Pa., where I resided all of my life before moving to Sandpoint. I attended Blue Mountain High School, where I participated in cross country and track and field, a sport that I ended up falling in love with. I went on to attend and run for DeSales University (with other brief stints at Susquehanna University and Elizabethtown College) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sport communication with a minor in sport management. I remember just how great it made me feel when I was mentioned in my hometown newspaper. I want to be able to give that feeling to every athlete in Bonner County, no matter how big or small their accomplishments are. As an athlete myself, I know how many hours of work are put in on a daily basis, and that hard work deserves to be recognized. It is my goal to cover as much of the Bulldogs, Spartans and Wampus Cats as I can. I want to work with every athlete, parent, coach, administrator and the community to ensure the best stories are published. | April 5, 2025 6:25 PM

Extended recap from Sunday's paper

Sandpoint 8, Post Falls 3

Post Falls 8, Sandpoint 7

POST FALLS — Junior Soren Caprio, sophomore Carson Resso and senior Drew Lehman had hits in both games as the visiting Bulldogs settled for a split with the Trojans in an Inland Empire League doubleheader held Saturday at Post Falls High.

In the opener, sophomore Parker Reichart, who was 3-for-3 at the plate, hit an RBI single to put the Bulldogs ahead 2-0 in the first frame. Resso, in his varsity debut, knocked an RBI single to left while junior Sage Medeiros hit a sacrifice fly to put the Bulldogs ahead 5-0 after the top of the fourth.

In the fifth, Lehman, a Columbia Basin College commit, hit a two-run double to center and senior Jesse Turner, who struck out four batters over the first five innings on the mound, a sacrifice fly to extend the lead to eight runs. The Bulldogs eventually held on for a 5-run victory, which marks the first time they've bested the Trojans since a 5-4 win in 2021.

In the nightcap, Lehman started off the scoring with an RBI single in the first inning and Caprio ignited a four-run rally in the second inning with a RBI single of his own. Post Falls' bats were also hot, however, and the score sat at 7-6 after three full innings of play.

The Bulldogs broke through in the sixth inning after Caprio scored an error to tie the game at 7-7. Medeiros did his part on the bump, giving up just one hit while striking out five batters over three innings in relief, but the Trojans eventually walked things off in extra innings on a suicide squeeze.

Overall, Caprio led the Bulldogs offensively in the series, posting a combined 3-for-6 effort with five runs scored and three walks.

Sophomore Brennan Shaw and Resso also had doubles on the day for Sandpoint (4-8, 3-5), which will play an Inland Empire League doubleheader at Lake City today.
