BONNERS FERRY – The Bonners Ferry High School varsity softball team came up short against the Troy Trojans April 5 to drop to 2-1 on the early season.
The Badgers trailed for the entire game, though going into the fourth inning, they were down just one run by a score of 7-6.
But the Trojans swung the bat well consistently, scoring in every single inning to ultimately come out victorious by eight runs. Six Trojans finished with multi-hit batting performances.
Jennifer Petersen pitched the entire game for the Badgers, throwing 151 pitches in seven innings. Despite high scoring from Troy, Petersen also recorded five strikeouts.
And from in the batter’s box, Petersen was the only Badger to record a multi-hit game, which included a triple, a double and three runs batted in.
Sadie Frederickson and Hannah Frago also hit doubles for Bonners Ferry.
For Troy, Halle Wallace got the win pitching the entire game as well, giving up nine runs and striking out six on 139 pitches.
The Badgers will be on the road to face the Kellogg Wildcats April 10 at 3 p.m., and then they will return home to play Thompson Falls-Noxon on a Saturday, April 12 double header. The first game is at noon, and the second will be played at 2 p.m.
On April 15, the Badgers will host a double header against Sandpoint, at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
