Chalk up dual win No. 100 for the Glacier boys tennis team.

The Wolfpack took a 6-2 dual victory over Flathead to reach the milestone Thursday at FVCC in the first crosstown dual of the season. 

“It’s a fun milestone,” Glacier coach Josh Munro said. “We thought we were going to get it against Columbia Falls, but ended with a 4-4 draw.” 

The Glacier girls also hit a milestone with their 90th dual victory with a 6-2 split with the Bravettes. 

Both teams were welcomed by the best weather so far this spring with winds staying relatively calm. 

“It is so nice,” Flathead coach Kaitlyn Schelbert said. “This is our first sunny, non-windy day, it makes all the difference. Everyone is out in T-shirts and shorts. It’s good not to be shivering and freezing.” 

One of the best matches of the day came at the girls No. 1 doubles spot between Glacier’s Miley Fritz and Claire Ennis and Flathead’s Nina Parris and Sarah Loran. After splitting the first two sets Parris and Loran pulled away, winning the final two games to take the third set 6-3. 

“This was our first time playing together,” Parris said. “I think we were kind of nervous, but in the end we worked well together.” 

“We are both normally singles players,” Loran said. “In singles every ball is yours and it’s hard figuring out with a partner who is going to get what, but I think we did a good job with it.” 

In singles Leilani Lennarz outdueled Flathead’s Elle Westover in the No. 1 matchup, taking the victory in straight sets. 

“I feel like at the start it was kind of rough, and I feel like I pulled through well in the end,” Lennarz said. “I love Elle, she is really fun to play against. She is really consistent.” 

Leading the way to the victory for the boys was a sweep of the doubles matches with No. 1 pairing Sam Engellant and Carl Bitney earning a 6-0, 6-0 victory in their match. Micah Klippenstein and AJ Zlogar also nabbed a victory without dropping a game. 

“Just some really solid play overall with doubles really taking control,” Munro said. “(Today) is a good test of where we are in the division for both schools.” 

In singles Aiden Lamb and Weston Heller took the wins for the Wolfpack to secure the dual victory. 

Flathead earned a pair of wins from No. 1 and 2 singles Rowan Alexander and Holden Askvig. Alexander outlasted Creed Norick in three sets, while Askvig did not drop a game en route to his win. 

“Today went pretty good, my serve went well,” Askvig said. “It builds confidence and it’s just a lot of fun, I love tennis and it’s great to have this good weather.”  

Both teams remain at home for a doubleheader Saturday against Great Falls and CMR with the first matches starting at noon.
