Vandals' McCormick named FCS ADA Scholar-Athlete of the Year

Former University of Idaho safety Tommy McCormick received the 24th annual Scholar-Athlete of the Year award, the Football Championship Subdivision Athletics Directors Association (FCS ADA) announced.

One of only two award recipients, McCormick was chosen from 52 FCS ADA Academic All-Star Team honorees and 11 finalists to receive a $5,000 postgraduate scholarship.

McCormick, a senior, will complete his bachelor’s degree in medical sciences in the spring of 2025. Furthering his education, he plans to pursue medical school in the summer of 2025 or 2026, depending on future NFL opportunities.

McCormick led the Vandals in 2024 with three interceptions and was second in tackles for one of the best defensive units in the Big Sky Conference. He was named first team All-Big Sky.

“I am very grateful to be recognized for the excellence I have displayed in the classroom and on the field throughout my college career,” McCormick said in a news release. “This scholarship will be put toward a good cause as it is my plan to attend medical school in the upcoming years."
