PREP SOFTBALL: Lakeland walk-off leads to sweep of Sandpoint

RATHDRUM — Sophomore Ada Blakemore hit a two-run double with two out in the bottom of the seventh inning, lifting the Lakeland Hawks past the visiting Sandpoint Bulldogs 13-12 in the first game of an Inland Empire League doubleheader Thursday. 

Lakeland won the second game 13-3 to complete the sweep. 

Blakemore was 4 for 5 in the opener for Lakeland (5-4, 3-2 IEL). Her double to right scored Reese Dutton and Katie Dewey.  

Reese Dutton hit a three-run homer in the first inning, and finished 3 for 5 with four RBIs and three runs scored. Dewey hit a a two-run homer in the fourth, and Kiersten Drake hit a solo homer in the fourth. 

Teagan Newsom went 3 for 4 with five RBIs in the first game for Sandpoint (1-13, 1-9). 

In the second game, Drake drove in four runs, two on a second-inning single, and two on a third-inning homer. Raygen Dutton followed Drake’s homer with a solo shot. 

Lakeland plays host to Timberlake and Frenchtown (Mont.) in single games Saturday.

COEUR d’ALENE — Ellie Henderson’s base hit to left field scored Adilyn Wenglikowski from third base with the winning run with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning, lifting the Vikings past the Trojans in the second game for the IEL sweep at Larry Schwenke Field. 

Maddy Pratt was 2 for 4 with a two-run double in the fifth inning for Coeur d’Alene (8-0, 6-0 IEL).  

In the first game, senior Chloe Burke hit her first high school homer, a three-run shot in the second inning, for the Vikings. She finished 2 for 3 with four RBIs and three runs scored. 

Rylan Morrison doubled twice and drove in three runs in the opener for Post Falls (2-4, 1-3). 

Jenna Davenport struck out 11 in a complete game in the opener for Coeur d’Alene, then fanned nine in 5.1 innings of relief in the nightcap. 

“I was very happy with my team’s perseverance today,” Coeur d’Alene coach Bobbi Darretta said. “I was also excited to see Rylan Morrison from Post Falls pitch so well on the mound. I’ve been her pitching coach since she was 10 years old and I couldn’t be prouder.” 

Post Falls plays host to Lake City on Saturday in an IEL doubleheader. 

Coeur d’Alene travels to Lewiston on Tuesday for a league twinbill.

SPIRIT LAKE — Freshman Shae Jones struck out 15 in each game, and hit a go-ahead home run in the nightcap as the host Tigers swept the Lumberjacks in nonleague play. 

St. Maries (6-5) took a 2-0 lead in the second game when Addilyn Turner singled in a run in the first inning, and Brenna Elliott drove in a run with a sacrifice bunt in the third inning. 

In the bottom of the third, Jesi Kitchin singled in a run for Timberlake (7-1), and Jones followed with a three-run homer. 

Jones pitched a one-hitter in the opener, walking three. She walked one and scattered three hits in the second game. 

“Shae was dominant again today — both on the mound and at the plate,” Timberlake coach Casi Lupinacci said. “We did a better job as a team running the bases. We just need to continue to learn from mistakes and make sure our intensity continues through each game.” 

Turner finished 2 for 3 in the second game for St. Maries, and Addyson Stewart struck out five. 

Emilia Landon and Amy McCune each drove in a pair of runs in the opener for Timberlake. 

On Saturday, St. Maries travels to Orofino for a Central Idaho League doubleheader, and Timberlake plays at Lakeland.

KELLOGG — The Badgers rallied with three runs in the top of the seventh inning to beat the Wildcats in a nonleague game at Kellogg Middle School. 

Bonners Ferry (4-1) hosts Thompson Falls-Noxon on Saturday. 

Charlie McDaniel had two hits and two RBIs for Kellogg (2-6), which hosts Kellogg on Monday.
