Local bankers Jamie Buhr and Brennin Grainey attended the April 9 Ronan City Council meeting to present facts on Special Improvement Districts. Mark Drinkwater, developer of Mission Valley Homesites, had approached the council regarding an SID for the first phase of a 221-lot subdivision on the southeast edge of Ronan.

In other business, the council approved:

• The Confederated Salish and Kootenai Housing Authority’s request for a waiver on impact fees for water and sewer hookups in exchange for rebuilding Third Ave. sewer lift station. This is for a transitional supportive apartment complex that was already approved.

• The preliminary conditional approval of Annointed Homes minor subdivision for Scott and Anita Beggs.

• A change order for the water main replacement project. The city is using American Rescue Plan Act funds to finish up the water project, according to Dan Miller, Ronan’s Director of Public Works.

In other business, members of local softball teams attended the council meeting to complain about being unable to use the softball fields. The council decided to have a meeting with the Ronan Pablo Youth Softball Association and these teams to discuss the facilities use agreement.

Miller updated the council on the EPA Environmental Justice Thriving Communities grant, which has been submitted. Funds would be used to improve Ronan’s downtown streetscape.

The next council meeting will be April 23 at 6 p.m.

“Great communities are built on volunteers”

Cars and trucks lined Main Street in Polson to collect Thanksgiving dinners from the Elks Club last Thursday. The drive-through dinner, commandeered by field marshal Tracy Plaiss, served 1,800 Thanksgiving dinners, made from scratch. A few miles south, the Ronan Community Thanksgiving dinner filled a room in the Boys and Girls Club with tables of visiting people and the aromas of roasting turkey and savory dressing.
