SANDPOINT — There was no stopping the Lady Bulldogs on Friday night at War Memorial Field.

Senior Marin Browne scored a career-high four goals, freshman Kat Argabrite netted a career-high four goals of her own and Sandpoint blanked Mead in WSLA Eastern Division play on senior night for their third win of the season.

"We controlled possession of the ball tonight and were accurate in our passing, which allowed us to move the ball up the field more efficiently," Sandpoint head coach Nancy Dooley said. "I feel like we worked really well together. The whole team was in snyc." 

Grace Gavin won three faceoffs and picked up a game-high eight groundballs, Abby Baker scooped up seven groundballs, and Argabrite and Gavin both led the charge defensively with three caused turnovers for the Lady Bulldogs, which led 9-0 at intermission.

Molly Sloan netted two goals while Reina Montecchi, Tess Sloan, Liv Alt and Sierra Zuberbuhler all tallied one each in the victory.

In addition to Browne, Claire Loutzenhiser, a Spokane CC commit for golf who is new to the sport this season, and Rianna Atencio are the other seniors on Sandpoint's roster this year.

"They're all three unique, wonderful young women," Dooley said. "Marin is a true natural leader as well as a standout player. She was the obvious choice to fill the role as captain of the team this year ... Her impact is felt in every game, every huddle and every practice and her legacy as both an outstanding player and a dedicated captain will be remembered for years to come."

Dooley had much of the same to say about Loutzenhiser.

"In just one season, Claire has shown incredible growth and has proved that she can tough it out just fine in any game against any opponent," Dooley said of Loutzenhiser. "Starting something new at any age takes courage. To walk onto an established team in your senior year, having never held a lacrosse stick in your life, takes real guts. It also takes a sense of confidence in yourself."

Atencio, a three-year player who had three groundballs in the contest, is said to be one of the most coachable players out there.

"Rianna is one of the hardest working and most positive players on our team," coach Dooley said. "Her joyful spirit and tireless work ethic creates a sense of unity and motivation that has made a lasting difference to our team," Dooley said of Atencio.

Sandpoint (3-4, 3-4) will play Mead again Thursday at Mt. Spokane High for another WSLA Eastern Division matchup.

Grangeville 23, Priest River 9

PRIEST RIVER — Sophomore Broden Collins was 3-for-4 with a two RBI singles as the host Spartans came up short of the Bulldogs in a 3A Central Idaho League game held Friday at Priest River Junior High.

Junior Logan Troumbley, who struck out six batters over 4.1 innings in his start on the mound, hit an RBI double to center field to get Priest River on the board early. 

Down 11-1, the Spartans rallied for a 4-run frame in the fifth inning with five hits in five consecutive at-bats. Sophomore Brayden Elder, freshman Jacob Best, and Collins all had RBI singles during the rally.

Priest River tacked on another run in the sixth with an RBI single by sophomore Colton Kuprienko, and three more in the seventh after another Collins RBI single and a couple of runs scored on errors before Grangeville held on for the win.

Freshman Layton Goins added a multi-hit effort on the day for Priest River (4-9, 4-5), which will look to get revenge today when they host Grangeville for a CIL doubleheader.

PRIEST RIVER — Senior Hannah Leitch struck out seven batters over five innings on the mound as the host Lady Spartans were defeated by the Lady Bulldogs in a 3A Central Idaho League contest on Friday at Priest River Junior High.

Sophomore Rylie Hansen had the only hit for Priest River (0-10-1, 0-10), which will host Grangeville again today for a CIL doubleheader.
