MOSCOW — Sandpoint High sophomore Teagan Newsom blasted two home runs, a double and was 3-for-3 in the opener with five runs scored as the visiting Lady Bulldogs split a 5A Inland Empire League doubleheader with the Lady Bears on Saturday at Moscow High.

Senior Abi Miller was 3-for-4 with a double and three RBI for Sandpoint, which defeated Moscow for the first time since 2022.

"We were selective and patient in the box today," Sandpoint High head coach Leah Platt said. "Our pitchers were hitting their spots and the defense was really behind them, but our bats were definitely the main factor in that first game. We had two outs several times and were just able to rally."

Sandpoint scored in six of seven innings in game one, starting off the first inning with an RBI single from freshman Avery Inge, an RBI double from junior Arah Stevens, and an RBI single from Miller. The Lady Bulldogs went on another 4-run rally in the third, capped off by an RBI single by freshman Marlee Stevens and an RBI double by junior Cadence Skibitsky.

Up 9-2 in the fourth, senior Emma Kohal knocked an RBI single, Miller an RBI double to put up the Lady Bulldogs up 11-2. The Lady Bears mounted a comeback, but Newsom's two-run homer in the sixth and solo shot in seventh proved to be too much for Moscow.

In the nightcap, Skibitsky and senior Ainsley Hull both had multi-hit efforts as Sandpoint put up 11 of their 12 runs across the first two innings.

Hull and senior Baylie Hindle hit RBI singles in the first inning, and senior Bailey Lancaster, Inge, and Hull smashed RBI singles in the second before Moscow was able to pull away in the fifth and sixth innings.

"There was just a period there in the middle of the game where we just weren't making the same contact as in the first," coach Platt said. "Now we know what we'll see on Tuesday. I thought the girls did really well picking up different plays and backing each other up. They were definitely all team players today."

Sandpoint (4-14, 2-10), which has won three of their last four, will host Moscow for another 5A IEL doubleheader on Tuesday for senior night.
