COPPER MOUNTAIN, Colo. — Three Snowboard Northwest athletes recently put their shredding skills to the test at the USASA National Championships held Saturday, March 29, through Thursday, April 10, at Copper Mountain Resort.

The event, which hosts over 1,000 snowboarders from all across the nation, features slopestyle, halfpipe, boardercross, alpine and rail jam competitions. Owen Miller and Calvin Schmidt of Sandpoint and Drew Falcone of Spokane showed off their best tricks and skills and left it all on the hill.

Miller, ranked No. 1 in the Inland Northwest Region in the Snowboard Youth 15-16 age division in slopestyle, led the way with an eighth-place finish in the second heat. Falcone finished 22nd in heat two while Schmidt glided to an 18th-place finish in heat one. After all was said and done, the 2024-25 overall national rankings for slopestyle in the Snowboard Youth 15-16 age division, which spans across five different regions of the United States, had Miller in 23rd, Schmidt in 30th and Falcone in 45th.

To round things out, later in the week Falcone went on to compete in the rail jam, eventually walking away with a 19th place ranking in his heat, which included riders ranging from 15 to 22 years of age.
