BONNERS FERRY – The Badgers softball team (9-7) won four straight last week, in double-header sweeps over the Kellogg Wildcats and the St. Maries Lumberjacks, before dropping two on the road against the Libby Loggers.
Ryelle Short continues having a standout year for the Badgers, putting up historic numbers over the recent six-game stretch, with three homeruns, three triples and two doubles.
Bonners Ferry dominated a home double-header against Kellogg on April 17, winning both games by a combined 20 runs.
Jennifer Petersen pitched a complete game in the first win, giving up only two earned runs in five innings, as the Badgers took care of business with a 14-4 victory. They went on to win the second game 17-7.
The Badgers travelled to St. Maries on April 18, winning both games on the road.
Bonners Ferry had their most dominant win of the season in the first game against St. Maries, winning 30-1. The Badgers recorded 25 hits, including two doubles and a triple by Hannah Frago, two doubles by Sadie Frederickson and a triple and a homer by Ryelle Short.
Frago also got the win from the mound, allowing only one run and four hits in six innings, striking out seven St. Maries batters.
The Badgers went on to win the second matchup against St. Maries 17-7.
The win streak snapped when Bonners Ferry traveled across state lines to face the Libby Loggers on April 22, dropping both games in the double header.
Libby was able to limit the Badgers offensively, allowing only three runs in the first game, and then shutting out Bonners Ferry in the second game.
The Badgers will host Timberlake on April 25 in a double-header, with games at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.
Bonners Ferry will also play Timberlake on the road May 1 at 3 p.m. The winner of the three-game series will host districts later in May.
