Sandpoint Area Seniors, Inc., recently hosted an appreciation ice cream social to thank the organization's volunteers. More than 40 volunteers attended the event.

The event was sponsored by Spears Insurance Inc.

"Sandpoint Area Seniors, Inc. appreciates its volunteers for their dedication and service over the past year," Lisa Bond, SASi executive director, said. "By serving SASi through home delivery of meals, prepping food, cleaning, repairs/upgrade in building, entertainment and more we are able to offer almost 19,000 meals a year to seniors in our area and create opportunities for social connection and education."

Bond said the senior center begins each year with a budget deficit. While partial government funding is received for the nutrition programs, the remaining costs are covered by grants, private and corporate donations and fundraising.

"This year there is an additional threat of reductions in government funding affecting available meal reimbursements," she added.

In response, SASi is joining the Idaho Gives campaign, following the success of the Live Give 7B campaign, which raised about $200,000 for local nonprofits and helping keep local funding at home.

"Your help is greatly appreciated as we continue to promote health, emotional well-being, and quality of life for the aging community of Bonner County," Bond said.

Donations can be made on the senior center's website, sandpointareaseniors.org.
