Nine area wrestlers qualify for Fargo Nationals

TWIN FALLS — After all was said and done at the Idaho Freestyle and Greco-Roman State Championships held Friday, April 18, and Saturday, April 19, at Canyon Ridge High, nine area wrestlers qualified for the USA Junior and 16U National Championships in Fargo this July.

The following nine athletes from Sandpoint, Clark Fork and Lakeland have all qualified after their performances last weekend: Jorden Tyler, William Bomba, Oriana Lopez, Mackenzee Donenfeld, Violet Henney, Summer Birch, Vanessa Hood, Kiera Balch and Shayne Pirlot.

Newly committed to North Idaho College, Tyler (Junior Boys 190) went 4-1 in Freestyle with two wins by technical fall, one win by injury default, and a win by pin, defeating 2024 2A (now 3A) 195-pound silver medalist Elijah Dilworth of Soda Springs, to grab second place. In Greco-Roman, the 5A 190-pound state champion went 2-2 and placed third.

Bomba (Junior Boys 215/245) qualified in Greco-Roman, going 3-1 with two wins by technical fall and a win by pin in the third-place match.

Leading the girls was Edmondson (16U Girls 120), who went 3-1 in Greco-Roman and placed second, winning all of her matches by pin; she also placed fifth in freestyle with a 3-2 record. Birch (16U Girls 115), representing Clark Fork, was third in freestyle, winning three matches — one by technical fall and two by pin.

Henney (Junior Girls 105) and Lopez (14U Girls 144-164) were third in freestyle and Hood was fourth in freestyle (16U Girls 135). Competing in both styles were Balch, who was fourth in Greco-Roman (Junior Girls 145/155) and fifth in freestyle, and Shayne Pirlot, who was fourth in Greco-Roman in the 16U Girls 155/170 division and fifth in 16U Girls 145/155.

The 2025 Junior and 16U National Championships, also known as Fargo Nationals, will take place from Thursday, July 10, to Saturday July 19, at the Fargo Dome, located at North Dakota State University.
