PREP ROUNDUP: McElroy shines on senior night

MAX OSWALD | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 7 months, 3 weeks AGO
by MAX OSWALD
I grew up in the small town of Orwigsburg, Pa., where I resided all of my life before moving to Sandpoint. I attended Blue Mountain High School, where I participated in cross country and track and field, a sport that I ended up falling in love with. I went on to attend and run for DeSales University (with other brief stints at Susquehanna University and Elizabethtown College) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sport communication with a minor in sport management. I remember just how great it made me feel when I was mentioned in my hometown newspaper. I want to be able to give that feeling to every athlete in Bonner County, no matter how big or small their accomplishments are. As an athlete myself, I know how many hours of work are put in on a daily basis, and that hard work deserves to be recognized. It is my goal to cover as much of the Bulldogs, Spartans and Wampus Cats as I can. I want to work with every athlete, parent, coach, administrator and the community to ensure the best stories are published. | April 26, 2025 1:00 AM

Argabrite, Brown lift Lady Bulldogs to win

Sandpoint 17, Mead 5

MEAD — Freshman Kat Argabrite and senior Marin Browne netted three goals apiece as the visiting Lady Bulldogs scored the most goals in one game on the season, defeating the Big Cats by a 12-point margin in WSLA East Division play on Thursday at Mt. Spokane High.

"Marin has been the steady hand in attack," Sandpoint High head coach Nancy Dooley said. "We count on her to control the tempo of the game, set up our offense and score a ton of crucial goals."

Cecilia Dignan, Abby Baker and Molly Sloan all found nylon twice for Sandpoint, which led 8-2 at intermission and used a 4-0 scoring advantage in the final frame to capture the league victory. Summer Loutzenhiser made her first appearance of the season at goalie, making an impressive eight saves in just one half of play.

"She is a first-year player who has a ton of potential," coach Dooley said. "We are looking forward to seeing how she will contribute to our team next year."

Dooley also noted that Adele Michael, who dished out a team-high two assists and picked up a tied for team-high four groundballs, and Avi Vachon, who scored a goal on the night, are two other first-year players who have made great strides and are having a positive impact on the team.

On the defensive side of things, Dignan, Baker and Grace Gavin were instrumental in protecting the goal, causing forced turnovers, and starting fast breaks.

Liv Alt, Tess Sloan, Reina Montecchi and Gavin chipped in one goal each for Sandpoint (4-4, 4-4), which hosts the Spokane Stealth for their league and regular season Monday at War Memorial Field.
