QUINCY – The Quincy Jacks soccer team fell to East Valley in a shootout tiebreaker Saturday afternoon.

“We started off pretty well, I think we were on the front foot for the first 20 minutes or so,” said Jacks coach Jesse Villalobos. “The two goals that we conceded were us being asleep, it was just not paying attention to the game.”

East Valley had put up two scores by the end of the first half, but the Jacks rallied in the second, where they responded with two goals of their own. The teams went into double overtime before having to go into sudden death, where East Valley came out on top.

Villalobos said that the Jacks' lesson to take from this game is that they can find success as long as they can come together as a team.

“This wasn’t the first time we’ve been in this situation where we have to come back and find one or two goals,” he said. “Ultimately, it’s on them to go out there and perform and they played very well so I think they should be proud.”

The Jacks still hold one of the top spots in the Central WA Athletic Conference with a league record of 6-2 and an overall record of 9-6. Villalobos said the team is still in a good spot and will be going forward with high morale.

They are going to ride their current momentum as they head into the postseason, keeping up their never-quit attitude, said the coach.

“Even if we’re down one goal, two goals, three goals, we can still fight, we can still find the net,” said Villalobos.

The Jacks will end the regular season off with a home game against Tonasket tonight at 6 p.m.

Jesus Carrillo gains possession of the ball midfield and uses his footwork to push toward the goal.

Jacks’ Jose Garcia makes one of many pushes along the sideline toward the goal.

Daniel Mendoza steals possession of the ball from East Valley.

Joshua Nunez (6) and Dominik Plascencia (17) go on the defensive and take the ball

Even with a loss the Cougars were proud of the successes they made this season. “It went well,” said Head Coach Randy Wright. “We’re a young team; we hung right in there in both games, but in the end the mistakes kind of cost us. We played well, but they had some big innings against us.”

ACH falls into consolation bracket in state softball tournament

YAKIMA — The Almira/Coulee-Hartline Warriors fell 5-8 in the quarterfinal bracket to the Colton Wildcats during the 1B State tournament. With this loss, the Warriors continue their state bid in the consolation bracket as they battle for a chance at third place. “We came out strong as we needed to, got three runs in that first inning, and we shut them down,” said Warriors head coach Faye Butler. “Then I think the nerves and all the excitement got to us, did a couple overthrows and they had a good rally on us.” The Warriors started off strong with the three runs in the bottom of the first inning to gain a substantial lead over their opponent. ACH maintained this lead until the third inning as Colton tied up the score with three runs of their own.
