COEUR d'ALENE — The 26th annual Cancer and Community Charities dinner and fashion show is anticipated to be out of this world.
"It will be really cool," said Laura Chambers, fashion show co-chair. "We have stars, planets and all kinds of things for decorations."
Tickets are on sale for the 3Cs Beyond the Runway Dinner and Fashion Show, which will be May 8 at The Coeur d'Alene Resort. Doors will open at 5 p.m.
Among the nearly 30 models who will make appearances in colorful outfits, male models will be featured — a fashion show first.
"I'm going to set the bar high," model Ty Brown said, smiling.
Leading the fashion team for the 13th year is Marie Widmyer, owner of Marmalade and Marie's Boutique.
"Each scene will be a store, so it's pretty much up to the store what they want to show," Widmyer said. "It's nice to have a variety like that, so there will be lots of different looks."
3Cs President Judy Gardner said she's excited for this year's event.
"We're happy that our own members will model," she said.
Two of the models who belong to the 3Cs are Ann Melbourn and Sue Walker, who have modeled clothing and accessories in the show several times.
"It's fun," Walker said. "You go out and you just perform."
"And you have enough friends along the way to cheer you on," Melbourn said.
The evening will include a special performance by the Golden SoleZ, featuring former members of the Blazen Divaz.
While the dinner and the fashion show are important, Chambers said at the end of the day it's all about giving back to the community.
"We are very focused this year on our individual charities," Chambers said. "Out of the 32 charities we donate to, each table will have information about a given charity. We're going to have videos about the charities as well, so that's the 'beyond the runway,' just really focusing on the charities we're so actively involved in.
"We just want to help educate people about all of these local charities that are so important to our community," she said.
Tickets are $110 each. Ticket sales close Thursday.
Funds raised support nonprofits and charities in Kootenai County.

Back Country Association helps keep trails open
Massive trees that topple onto trails on public lands don't stay in the way for long. Members of the Back Country ATV-UTV Association roar up mountains through dust, mud, puddles, sunshine and snow to find these obstructions and safely remove them to keep the trails open, accessible and tree free. "The one we just cut down there was deader than a doornail," Norman Molberg of Athol said during a trail-clearing expedition April 25. "It was like cutting through a roll of paper towels."
