SANDPOINT — Today's Festival at Sandpoint concert will deliver non-stop music from a quartet of bands that will rock the center stage all night.
Joining Dispatch on the Festival stage will be John Butler with band, G. Love and Special Sauce and Donavon Frankenreiter.
Headlining the concert is Dispatch, formed by Chadwick Stokes and Brad Corrigan while in college in Vermont. The band had traveled outside the mainstream music industry as one of the most successful artists in the roots rock scene. Over the course of a slew of acclaimed studio and live albums and countless tours and festivals, the band has gone on to become one of biggest success stories in independent music history, selling out three nights at Madison Square Garden and drawing over 100,000 fans to a massive outdoor show in their adopted hometown of Boston without any traditional radio or major label support.
This year, the band is back with its ninth studio album titled "Yellowjacket" that draws on their reggae-funk roots from their formative days. To celebrate the release, the band embarked on a U.S tour alongside John Butler (with band).
Butler is one of Australia’s premier alternative songwriters and storytellers with accolades spanning from No. 1 charting albums, platinum records, and ARIA Awards across his illustrious career as one of the country’s most successful independent musicians.
His rich catalog of iconic hits spanning over a quarter of a century includes signature songs such as "Zebra," "Better Than," "Ocean" and more. His music continues to traverse the globe having performed on the world’s most iconic stages, venues, and festivals including Fuji Rock, Glastonbury, Coachella, Red Rocks Amphitheatre, and more with his high-energy live show and revered musicianship.
G. Love & Special Sauce is an American hip-hop blues band known for its unique fusion of hip-hop, blues, funk, and soul. Formed in 1993 in Philadelphia, Pa., the band originally featured Garrett Dutton, aka G. Love, as the lead vocalist and guitarist, Jeffrey Clemens on drums, and Jim Prescott on bass. The trio quickly gained attention for their laid-back, groovy style and G. Love’s unique vocal delivery, blending rap-like spoken word with bluesy singing.
The band’s style has been described as a mix of “slacker blues” and “alternative hip-hop,” as they frequently incorporate elements of ’90s hip-hop beats with classic blues rhythms.
For nearly two decades, Donavon Frankenreiter has been traveling the globe, first as a professional surfer and now as a musician. Born in Southern California, Donavon spent most of his youth chasing waves, turning pro at the age of 16.
These days instead of surf competitions, it’s concert halls that bring Frankenreiter to town, where he entertains audiences with his unique blend of laid-back grooves, philosophical lyrics, and soulful delivery.
The concert will be a standard show, meaning that the area in front of the stage is a general admission dancing and standing area.
General admission tickets are $59.50 before taxes and fees. General admission gates open at 5 p.m., with music starting at 6 p.m.
The Festival at Sandpoint's annual summer performance series continues for a second week, running through Sunday, Aug. 3, with a variety of genres, including pop, rock, country, folk, classical and more.
