COEUR d’ALENE — A man received a prison sentence for his fifth instance of driving under the influence, according to the Kootenai County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
William E. Gill, 39, pleaded guilty in April to driving under the influence, a felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
First District Judge Barry McHugh sentenced Gill this week to 10 years in prison with parole eligibility after two years. Gill’s driver’s license will be suspended for five years after his release from prison.
The charge stems from last July, when police pulled Gill over for an alleged speeding offense. Prosecutors said Gill failed field sobriety evaluations during the traffic stop and provided breath samples that showed a blood alcohol concentration of 0.19, more than twice the legal limit of .08.
Gill has prior misdemeanor DUI convictions from 2007, 2009, 2021 and 2025, according to the prosecutor’s office. In Idaho, a third DUI conviction within a 10-year period can be charged as a felony.
