Second Bruce Festival set for Aug. 16-17

The Bruce Festival is back for a second year, returning to the Boundary County Fairgrounds Pavilion Aug. 16 and 17. 

The Bruce Festival is a unique opportunity for the community to come together and celebrate the rich cultural heritage of Scotland and Ireland through the lens of the life and legacy of Robert the Bruce. French culture and history are also included in this year's celebration. 

Running from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday, the festival commemorates the 751st birthday of Robert the Bruce, King of Scots, through a community-centered experience packed with history, tradition and entertainment. 

Attendees can expect a variety of immersive activities including a sword fighting arena and discussion led by a trained local fencer, authentic Scottish and Irish food and drink, genealogy, guest speakers, storytellers, live cultural music and dance, raffles, history lessons, vendor booths, activities and more. 

Live bagpipe performances by the president of the St. Andrews Society, along with video and photographic presentations and live mini-Highland cows, promise a unique and educational atmosphere for all ages. 

Vendors will include both local businesses and cultural artisans offering goods and demonstrations with a Scottish-Irish flair. Vendor spaces are still available. 

Sponsorship opportunities are available for those interested. Current event sponsors include Misty Mountain Pizza, Will and Laura Realty, Super 1 Foods, Woods Meat Processing, Pro X Building Center, Larson's Clothing, Bushnell Law and Kerr Supply-NAPA, Miller’s Auto Collision, Old North Idaho Industries, and Stirling Endeavors. 

Organizers are actively seeking volunteers to help bring the event to life. Volunteers will receive free entry and a complimentary lunch.  

The Bruce Festival is dedicated to preserving and promoting the Scottish and Irish cultural heritage of North Idaho. Its mission is to educate and engage the community through this historical and cultural event. 

Admission is $10 for individuals, $25 for families, and free for children ages six and under.
