Idaho State Police assisted Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials Thursday in transporting three people who are in the state illegally from a county jail to an ICE detention facility, where the individuals await deportation, according to the governor’s office.

Idaho Gov. Brad Little said the transports were the first to occur under ISP’s partnership with ICE to help transport unauthorized immigrants who’ve been convicted of crimes to detention centers. Under the agreement, the state of Idaho is authorized to spend up to $300,000 to transport up to 100 people over the next year. 

The three individuals who were transported this week were Alvaro Perez-Soto, Tomas Prieto-Servin and Jaren Zuniga-Crus. 

Little directed ISP to use its authority through the federal 287(g) program “only to transport out of local jails the most violent and dangerous illegal aliens who have been convicted and have completed their sentences,” according to a news release. 

Perez-Soto is from Mexico and has been in the U.S. since at least 2008, according to the governor’s office. His criminal history reportedly includes a charge of domestic violence with traumatic injury. 

Prieto-Servin is from Mexico and has been in the U.S. since 1991. According to the governor’s office, his criminal history includes reckless endangerment, obstructing a public servant, attempted assault, a probation violation and six convictions for driving under the influence. 

Zuniga-Cruz is from Honduras and has been in the U.S. since 2019. His criminal history includes past convictions for possession of a controlled substance and transporting/selling narcotics/controlled substances, according to the governor’s office.
