CANNING LID PINCH

A survey of local grocers indicates the canning lid shortage has hit here with a vengeance. Only two stores had lids in stock, which were being rationed. Most stores have been out at least two weeks, and had difficulty obtaining lids from suppliers for over a year. One manager, blaming the shortage on panic buying, added, “There is 60% more canning now.”

JETS STARTLE CITY

Many Sandpoint people heard the two jet planes that zoomed over the city twice late Friday afternoon. The flight of the planes was so swift they were gone before they could be located in the sky by most observers. The few who did see them remarked on the precision flying the fast planes were doing as they skimmed over.
