Doris Faye (Finney) Mills passed away peacefully at her home in Des Moines, Wash., on Aug. 2, 2025, at the age of 95.
She was born in Lusk, Wyo., in 1930. At the age of six, her family — father Frank, mother Amelia (Dollie), brothers Alvan (Bud), William (Ed) and Charles (Manny) and sister Allene — traveled to Sandpoint, Idaho, in the family truck. There, she attended Sandpoint High School, marrying in 1947 before graduating in 1948. She would eventually have three children, Laura, Doug and Karen.
She later returned to school at Eastern Washington University in Cheney, Wash., where she earned a degree in education and began teaching first grade at Pe Ell, Wash., where she taught until "retirement" but continued to teach as a substitute for many more years at various schools.
In 1996, she married Virgil Mills and moved to Kent, Wash., where they lived until shortly before his recent death.
Doris is survived by two children and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and two sisters-in-law.
