Floyd “Fred” Culver was born July 5, 1950, in Kellogg, Idaho, to Floyd and Helen Culver, and passed away July 26, 2025, in Pharr, Texas, at age 75. Fred had wonderful memories of his childhood and often spoke of being taught in a one-room school.

In 1968, Fred enlisted in the U.S. Navy under the buddy program alongside his close friend, Roy Reel. He proudly served eight years of active duty and continued his commitment to the Navy as a reservist for an additional 16 years.

Fred began his working life in the mining industry, starting as a "stripper" in the mines. His career in mining took him across Idaho, Montana, and Missouri, where he developed lifelong friendships.

After retiring, Fred and his beloved wife of 45 years, Ruth, made their home in Pharr, Texas. He cherished the warm weather and became a regular presence at the local clubhouse, where he spent countless hours working on puzzles — one of his great passions. Fred had a flair for humor and performance, and his involvement in the park’s drama club brought joy and laughter both to him and to those around him.

Fred had a knack for making people laugh and was known for his unmistakable cocky smile. His lightheartedness, humor and zest for life will be deeply missed.

Fred is survived by his loving wife, Ruth; his children Seth, Wendy (Bob) and Heather (Jim); his grandchildren, Jessica, Justin and Derick; his great-grandchildren; his brother, Richard; and his sister, Monica.

A memorial service will be held Aug. 30 at 1 p.m. at The River Church, 1687 E. Horsehaven Ave., Post Falls, Idaho.

Fred’s memory will live on in the laughter he shared, the love he gave and the stories we continue to tell.
