Jenks to be inducted into Chicagoland Sports Hall of Fame
CHICAGO — Former Lakeland High and Prairie American Legion pitcher Bobby Jenks will be inducted into the Chicagoland Sports Hall of Fame on Oct. 15,
Jenks, a rookie closer for the Chicago White Sox when the White Sox won the World Series in 2005, passed away July 4 at age 44 following a battle with cancer.

Vandal football ranked No. 12 in coaches poll
The Idaho Vandals are ranked No. 12 in the AFCA FCS Preseason Coaches Poll, as announced on Monday.
This is the third consecutive year the Vandals have been ranked heading into the season. Idaho finished last season ranked No. 7 in the coaches poll.
The Vandals will be playing against four teams who are ranked in the coaches poll (No. 7 UC Davis, No. 9 Montana, No. 14 Sacramento State and No. 18 Northern Arizona), as well as two FBS teams (Washington State, San Jose State). Idaho is one of six teams from the Big Sky Conference that is ranked. Idaho is not scheduled to play Montana State, ranked No. 2. The Big Sky Conference has more ranked teams (six) than any other conference in the nation.
North Dakota State is ranked No. 1; South Dakota State is No. 3, followed by Incarnate Word, South Dakota and Illinois State.
Idaho's first game against a team that is ranked in the preseason coaches poll is on Sept. 27 at Montana in a nationally televised showdown for the Little Brown Stein.

The Vandal season kicks off on Aug. 30 in Pullman against Washington State.
Rathdrum's Palaniuk fifth at Bassmaster Elite event
MACOMB COUNTY, Mich. — Former Lakeland High and North Idaho College wrestler Brandon Palaniuk finished fifth at the Yokohama Bassmaster Elite at Lake St. Clair on Sunday.
Palaniuk finished with a four-day total of 86 pounds, 14 ounces.
Trey McKinney, 20, of Carbondale, Ill, won with a haul of 96 pounds, 1 ounce, the fifth heaviest winning weight in a smallmouth event in B.A.S.S. history.
